Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) is investing $100 million in 16 new clean technology projects with a $600-million total project value, via the not-for-profit's BEST Challenge program. The public and private-sector projects operate in the areas of sustainable transportation, electricity and biotechnology. The projects are expected to create more than 100 new jobs and reduce cumulative greenhouse gas emissions by over 2.5 million tonnes of CO2e by 2030 – equivalent to taking some 530,000 cars off the road. Steve MacDonald, CEO of ERA, says the clean tech projects will help demonstrate and scale up innovative technologies that can be adopted in Alberta and around the world.
