Bains and Duncan seek applicants for new science and innovation advisory council

The Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) and the Minister of Science and Sport are seeking to fill positions for a new independent advisory body called the Council on Science and Innovation (CSI). The council is tasked with helping to stimulate innovation and strengthen the science and research ecosystem in Canada. Their mandate includes providing evidence-based analysis and policy advice, acting as a “sounding board” for Ministers, and reporting publicly on science and innovation issues. The CSI will be composed of a chairperson and eleven members, drawn from the three sectors of the innovation ecosystem (research,  private, and civil) and jointly appointed by the two ministers. The Chief Science Advisor will also serve as ex-officio Vice-Chair, while the the Deputy Minister of ISED and Deputy Minister of Health will join the CSI as ex-officio members. Applicants are expected to possess “knowledge of the roles played by industry, post-secondary institutions, governments, and not-for-profit organizations in advancing science, research and innovation in Canada,” as well as “knowledge of the challenges and opportunities related to Canada’s science, research and innovation ecosystem.”
