Boeing hires BC interns to conduct visual analytics

The federal government, Province of British Columbia and Boeing Canada Operations Ltd are providing $1.5 million over four years to support 100 graduate student internships who will utilize the emerging multi-disciplinary field of visual analytics to help improve aircraft efficiency and reliability. Funded through the MITACS-administered ACCELERATE BC, the students from the Univ of British Columbia and Simon Fraser Univ will examine vast quantities of data from Boeing's Richmond BC-based AeroInfo Systems Division. Visual analytics provides an interactive visual representation of large volumes of data by combining computer science, mathematics, engineering, design and analytical capabilities. The BC government and Boeing are contributing $375,000 each to support the interns, who receive $15,000 for a four-month term.
