The B.C.-based Digital Technology Supercluster announced its official launch after receiving a funding allocation of $153 million from the Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Economic Development (ISED) and $200 million in funding commitments from its initial cohort of 29 members, representing 33 organizations. The consortium’s starting group of member organizations include 14 SMEs, 13 large companies and six post-secondary institutions, as well as more than 500 other associate organizations. The supercluster aims to position Canada as a global hub for digital technology innovation through the application of data analytics, quantum computing, and virtual, mixed/augmented reality. Collaborative projects already in development seek to support the competitiveness of BC’s natural resource sector, improve health outcomes for Canadians, and secure new markets for industrial manufacturing.
