Dr Santa Ono, president of the Univ of British Columbia, has been appointed chief advisor of the province’s freshly minted Innovation Network linking industry to post-secondary institutions. During Ono’s first year, he will focus on talent, research and innovation, and super-clusters. This will involve working in conjunction with the Premier’s Technology Council to: develop and implement strategies to attract and retain talent; align tech sector needs and post-secondary training and education; identify programs and investments to meet industry demand; and, conduct a gap analysis to position innovation clusters for global competition. Ono was recruited to UBC from the Univ of Cincinnati, succeeding interim president Dr Martha Piper last August.
