Genome Canada has launched an open competition for new S&T Platforms (now called S&T Innovation Centres) with up to $24 million over two years. The funds will support successful operations support for the Innovation Centres in genomics technologies in the areas of health, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, new technologies and GE3LS (genomics and its related ethical, economic, environmental, legal and social aspects). Funding for the competitor is drawn from $75 million Genome Canada received in the 2010 federal Budget. The funding is expected to support operations support for "staff who specialize in methods and technology development, information technology and data analysis". Genome Canada is currently developing the concept of a National Network of Innovation Centres to allow Centres to work together collaboratively.
