The National Institute of Nanotechnology (NINT) – a joint venture between the National Research Council, Government of Alberta and the Univ of Alberta (U of A) – has appointed the first researchers to its staff. Six professors from the U of A have been cross-appointed giving them equal status at both organizations. And a professor from the Univ of Calgary is using his sabbatical to join NINT for one year. Acting DG Dr Danial Wayner also released the Institute’s research plan which focuses on life sciences, energy and materials and information and communications technologies. When fully staffed, NINT will house 150 permanent staff, 45 guest workers and provide training for 275 graduate and post-doctoral researchers….
