WD funds Carbon Research Institutes field station

Western Economic Diversification Canada is providing $4.9 million for the creation of a field research station (FRS) to accelerate technology development and performance validation related to carbon capture and storage. The FRS project is led by the Containment and Monitoring Institute, the first of a planned series of institutes under the CMC Research Institutes banner. CMCRI is an initiative of Carbon Management Canada Inc, which is supported by the Government of Alberta, industry sponsors and (until 2014) the Networks of Centres of Excellence program. CMCRI aims to bridge the gap between early stage research and widespread implementation and commercial adoption, offering contract research services and sponsorship opportunities to industries, companies, governments and researchers working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the oil and gas sector. Also participating in the FRS is Schlumberger Carbon Services, the Univ of Calgary and Cenovus Energy, which is contributing the land and mineral rights required to establish the field station....
