Xerox and NINT team for collaborative research

The Xerox Research Centre of Canada (XRCC) and the National Institute for Nanotechnology (NINT) have entered a multi-year research collaboration to develop nanotechnology-based R&D with commercial potential. Billed as Canada's first private-public nanotech research partnership, the collaboration will see the partners devote $4.5 million over three years to develop research teams that will establish targeted programs for document- and display-related technologies and facilitate personnel exchanges. NINT will hire several additional researchers to undertake the collaboration. The funds will come from XRCC, NINT and the Government of Alberta, which is a joint partner in NINT along with the National Research Council. The pact widens the scope of NINT's activities towards industrial applications, giving the Institute a strong footing in all three sectors (industry, government and academia). It also marks the first time XRCC has worked with external research partners.
