The Xerox Research Centre of Canada (XRCC) and the National Institute for Nanotechnology (NINT) have entered a multi-year research collaboration to develop nanotechnology-based R&D with commercial potential. Billed as Canada's first private-public nanotech research partnership, the collaboration will see the partners devote $4.5 million over three years to develop research teams that will establish targeted programs for document- and display-related technologies and facilitate personnel exchanges. NINT will hire several additional researchers to undertake the collaboration. The funds will come from XRCC, NINT and the Government of Alberta, which is a joint partner in NINT along with the National Research Council. The pact widens the scope of NINT's activities towards industrial applications, giving the Institute a strong footing in all three sectors (industry, government and academia). It also marks the first time XRCC has worked with external research partners. XRCC is one of the Xerox's most efficient industry laboratories, with a cost-per-patent ratio far below that of other Xerox labs….
