Brian Levitt has been appointed chair of the selection board for the Canada Excellence Research Chairs (CERC) program, replacing Derek Burney. Levitt is a long-time corporate executive and corporate governance advisor, primarily with the firm of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt. Levitt will join with co-chair Shirley Tilghman, president of Princeton Univ, and other selection board members to oversee the upcoming second CERC competition for another 10 chairholders. He was a member of the Competition Policy Review Panel in 2007 and recently appointed chairman of the Canadian Judicial Compensation and Benefits Commission. CERC chairs are worth $10 million each and the latest round will be aligned with the priorities of the 2007 S&T strategic plan with an added emphasis on the digital economy….
